Meet Abhishek Soni, an investment Banker and also traveloholic person, who took a trip to Bhutan last year, on the May month. Holding a strong passion for exploring new places, he decided to go on a 6-day long adventure with 5 of his friends. He booked his holiday via RS Travels and it cost (including hotels, sightseeing, and cabs) him a total of INR 20,000.
And the journey begins-
What could be better than traveling with your best friends in the Hills? Yes, it is the best feeling ever I always felt when I am with my Friends. For me, traveling is all about learning new things and meeting with the new people. I was always dreaming about an international tour and Bhutan’s Tiger Nest always attracted me to the destination.
When I took the idea of a trip to Bhutan in front of my friends, everyone jumped to grab the opportunity. The weather was perfect for traveling as well. From what I’d previously known, the culture and beauty of Bhutan seemed incredibly refreshing and exciting. It was being our first international road trip; we all were really excited about this trip.
The Journey to Bhutan with my friends-
Day-1: Touchdown Bhutan:
We started our tour to Bhutan from Delhi. Some of our friends are from Mumbai, so first they were flying from Mumbai and joined us at the Delhi airport. And we all set out for our first international trip together. After landing in the Bagdogra Airport we were greeted by RS Travels’ agents and took us to Phuentsholing, the border of Bhutan.
They arranged very well-decorated rooms for the night halting and the food was really awesome! We stayed at the Park Hotel in Phuentsholing which was a decent stay for a night along with delicious food, Ema Datshi with red rice.
Day-2 & 3: Tour to Thimphu to explore its beauty-
We were all set to go to the capital city of Bhutan, i.e., Thimphu on the second day. We started our day by visiting the immigration office, getting our permits in an hour, and soon embarking on our way to Thimphu by 11 AM. The drive to Thimphu was so amazing and we got to see some spectacular views of the lower Himalayas. We checked into Hotel Tara in Thimphu for the decent stay at night and had a great dinner arranged by the agents.
On the third day, after breakfast at the hotel, we made our way for the Thimphu sightseeing tour. We visited various historical sites such as the Dzong Museum, the Takin Zoo, monasteries, and the Buddha Point. This gave us a true insight into the Bhutanese culture, making our day all the more enjoyable.
We clicked loads of pictures here and soaked in the stunning views of the Thimphu town from the Buddha Point. We got to see the entire process of paper is made here in a truly organic way without any chemicals and spent the rest of the evening at a local park. We spent our peaceful night in the hotel.
Day-3 & 4: Shopping & Sightseeing in Paro-
Next morning, we checked out of our hotel and drove to Paro, another major city in Bhutan. The city was visually stunning and consisted of beautiful sceneries and great hotels. On our arrival into Paro, after getting refreshed in Hotel Basecamp, we started with a visit to the Drukgyal Dzong. During the city sightseeing tour, we also saw various important monuments in Paro like the Dzong – the temporal and administrative headquarters of the city.
The evening was free of any pre-planned activity and was spent in leisure. We shopped around the local markets and also tried out a Gho and Kira, the ethnic wear of Bhutan.
Trek to Tiger’s Nest Monastery- This was the day all of us had eagerly been waiting for through the trip. On the 4th day, we started our refreshing morning with a healthy breakfast. Then we move on to our most awaited trek to Tiger’s Nest Monastery. The 3hr trek was all that we had hoped for and more. Filled with adventure, the entire journey was thrilling. The view from the top was absolutely mesmerizing as well. We were pleased to see how there were horses available at the beginning of the trek to carry the elderly till the halfway point.
We returned back to our hotel at 3 pm and the time was spent resting and taking off the exhaustion from the trek.
Day-5: Move to Punakha- On the 5th day, our representative moves us to Punakha. Here we explore Punakha Dzong, Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten etc. Later after having lunch, our representative brings us to Phuentsholing from Punakha, which almost take 6hours to reach. We stayed in the same hotel in Phuentsholing like before for the overnight stay.
Bidding farewell to the happy country and its people-
It was our last day in the land of beauty, Bhutan. With a heavy heart and some amazing memories, we checked out of our hotel and headed back to Bagdogra Airport. The 4hr drive on the beautiful roads of the country was serene and enjoyable. Our trip came to an end as we boarded our flight back to Delhi from Bagdogra Airport.
A heartwarming experience in the Land of Thunder Dragon-
We are all happy with the arrangements organized by RS Travel agent. They are very co-operative and helpful. Their arrangements make our first trip to Bhutan exceeded our expectations. The people of the country are just as beautiful as the place itself. They treat tourists as family and have minimal interest in business gains. The lip-smacking food just added to the entire experience. I loved Bhutan and its happy vibe.
